The Role
Support a large healthcare organization in assessing, strengthening, and validating disaster recovery and business continuity for its Epic environment. This is a 100% remote, long-term contract / consulting opportunity open to candidates anywhere in the world who can work EST hours. We are seeking a senior, hands-on Epic DR practitioner who can work independently across application, infrastructure, security, and clinical/operational teams. Actual Epic environment experience is required; general disaster recovery or infrastructure experience without Epic exposure is not a primary match.
Why This Role
Assess the existing Epic disaster recovery and business continuity strategy, review architecture, and identify critical application and infrastructure dependencies
Evaluate RTO/RPO requirements, backup, replication, and recovery capabilities; identify gaps and risks
Develop practical recommendations and a prioritized Epic DR remediation roadmap
Review recovery procedures and sequencing across Epic and dependent clinical systems
Participate in or lead DR testing and validation, including tabletop exercises, technical recovery exercises, and failover/failback testing
Work with compute, storage, virtualization, networking, backup, and security teams, and collaborate with Epic/application teams to validate recovery requirements
Document current-state architecture, findings, recommendations, and recovery procedures; provide senior-level guidance to leadership and technical teams
What You Bring
Hands-on experience designing, assessing, or implementing disaster recovery for Epic environments in healthcare organizations; general DR/infrastructure experience without Epic exposure is not a primary match
Strong understanding of Epic production environments, recovery requirements, downtime procedures, and application dependencies
Strong understanding of Epic technical architecture and dependencies across applications, databases, interfaces, compute, storage, virtualization, networking, and identity/access; ability to translate application requirements into infrastructure and recovery requirements
Experience developing or evaluating DR architectures, recovery strategies, RTO/RPO requirements, and recovery sequencing, including backup, replication, recovery, and failover/failback technologies
Ability to identify DR gaps and develop practical remediation recommendations
Experience planning and executing DR tests, tabletop exercises, technical recovery exercises, and/or full failover/failback testing; ability to develop recovery procedures, test scenarios, and success criteria, document findings, and drive remediation
7+ years of IT infrastructure, application, or disaster recovery experience, with meaningful healthcare IT experience
Experience working with healthcare application, infrastructure, security, and clinical/operational teams; ability to communicate credibly across Epic/application and infrastructure teams
Familiarity with healthcare regulatory and security considerations, including HIPAA and cyber-recovery requirements
Able to work independently as a senior-level consultant and work EST hours from anywhere in the world
Preferred: Epic implementation, optimization, or technical infrastructure experience, including Chronicles / database technologies, Hyperspace, and interfaces
Preferred: Epic environments hosted on VMware, Nutanix, physical infrastructure, or cloud platforms
Preferred: healthcare cyber-recovery / ransomware recovery and experience with large hospital systems, health systems, or multi-site healthcare environments
Epic certifications or technical training, and experience working directly with Epic representatives, are a plus
